Short answer
Hibrid (HEV) runs on gasoline, small battery only saves fuel and does not plug in. Plug-in hibrid (PHEV) has a large battery, charges from an outlet and can drive short distances on electricity only. Elektrik avtomobili (BEV) runs only on battery. The choice depends on your daily mileage and charging availability.

Hibrid (HEV)
The simplest and least risky option. Battery is small, charges itself while driving. Fuel consumption in the city is significantly reduced. Models like Toyota Prius, Camry Hybrid, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid are frequently found at US auctions.
Plug-in hibrid (PHEV)
You can charge at home and drive daily city routes on electricity, then switch to gasoline for long trips. But since the battery is large, the risk in a damaged lot is also high. If you use it without charging, it may be less economical than a regular hybrid.
Elektrik (BEV)
Lowest operating cost, but depends on charging infrastructure. When buying from auction, battery, charging port and software issues must be checked separately — detailed article.
