Short answer
In Copart and IAAI listings, the condition of a car is given in several short notations: Run and Drive (runs and moves), Keys (keys present/absent), Primary/Secondary Damage (primary and additional damage) and Sale Document (document type). These notations directly affect the price, so it is necessary to understand each one before making an offer.
Movement Status
| Qeyd | Meaning | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Run and Drive / Run & Drive | At the time of acceptance on the lot, the car started and moved forward | This is the condition at the time of acceptance; it is not a guarantee |
| Engine Starts / Starts | Engine runs, but movement has not been checked or confirmed | There may be issues with the transmission, axle, or tires |
| Stationary / Does Not Start | Car does not start | The reason could be simple (battery) or serious (engine, water damage) |
Keys Yes and Keys No
Keys Yes — keys are provided with the lot. Keys No — keys are absent. A car without keys is usually cheaper, but on modern vehicles, preparing and programming a smart key can be expensive. For some brands, an official service is required. Take this cost into account when calculating your offer.
Damage Codes
- Front End / Rear End / Side: front, rear or side impact. The most common and most predictable types of repair.
- All Over: damage on multiple sides — usually a serious accident.
- Water/Flood: water damage. High risk of electrical damage and corrosion — detailed article.
- Burn: fire. Often not profitable.
- Hail: hail. Body dents; mechanics are usually undamaged.
- Mechanical: mechanical malfunction — engine, transmission, etc.
- Minor Dent/Scratches, Vandalism, Undercarriage, Rollover: minor dent, vandalism, undercarriage damage, rollover.
Note: damage code indicates only the primary damage. For hidden damage, you must examine the photos carefully — in this article .
Sale Types
- Pure Sale: no minimum price, the car is sold to the highest bidder.
- On Approval / Minimum Bid: the seller must confirm the final price; even if the bid wins, the sale may not happen immediately.
- Buy Now / Buy It Now: opportunity to buy at a fixed price without waiting for the auction.
Mileage (odometer) Notations
Actual — the indicated mileage is considered actual. Not Actual — it is known to be inaccurate. Exempt — on older cars, mileage recording is not required. You cannot price a lot marked "Not Actual" based on mileage; VIN history compare with.
Document Type
